Hey there, my name is Joseph and I’m one of the writers at Beginner Bowling Tips. Ever since I was a little kid I’ve absolutely loved the game of bowling and I used to beg my parents to take me as much as possible. I even had my eighth birthday party at my favorite alley in my hometown.
As I got older, my interest turned much more competitive; I wanted to become the best bowler I could be. I saw other bowlers getting strike after strike by hooking the ball and I immediately was unsatisfied with my straight shot. After a few months of trial and error and tinkering with different deliveries, I decided I needed to purchase a ball drilled to my hand if I ever wanted to be serious about the game.
After a quick trip to the pro shop, I was suddenly a serious bowler equipped with his own ball! Once I got used to the much increased hook that comes with a reactive resin cover, I knew it was time to take the next step. I echoed Homer Simpson’s famous sentiment: “I’m tired of being a wannabe league bowler, I wanna be a league bowler!” After joining a league at my local alley, I suddenly was looking at bowling in a completely different light: wins, losses, team spirit; all that jazz. Since I’ve played all sorts of different sports over the course of my life, I absolutely loved this. If you commit to it, bowling can be much more than just a casual, recreational game among friends. It is a complicated, nuanced sport that takes many years to master.
Now I’m in my third year of league bowling and loving every minute of it. I just moved so I had to go through the process of finding a new league and teammates, but now I’m settled down and I’m looking to keep up the improvement. I’ll be using this blog to recount some of my experiences at the alleys. While I’m certainly no professional bowler, I feel that this will be helpful to beginning and intermediate bowlers, and a more personal compliment to our regular strategy articles.
Best of luck to you all on the lanes, and hope to see you back here again! Feel free to leave a comment on any of these entries if you have any questions or ideas for tips!
