If you enjoy the competitive side of bowling but currently just bowl with your friends for fun or maybe in a league at your local alley, you may be thinking about taking the next step.

So what exactly does that look like?

In our opinion, participating in a bowling tournament is a great idea for taking your bowling to another level. It allows you to test your skills out in a more intense environment and can be a rewarding experience even if you don’t take first place (or anything close to it).

Why to Sign up for a Bowling Tournament?

There are numerous benefits you get from participating in a bowling tournament, and you might find that it improves your game in ways you might not have anticipated.

A Bowling Tournament Makes You Accountable

For one, having a tournament coming up gives you accountability and helps you focus your practice in the days or weeks leading up to it.

If you’ve been struggling to find as much time for bowling as you’d like to, you’ll be much more likely to get it on your schedule when you know you have a tournament coming up.

It’s the same principle as signing up for a half-marathon to get you to really start running in the mornings!

Also, bowling tournaments typically have an entry fee to cover bowling and the prize pool (if offered).

And although it’s never our favorite thing to have to shell out cash to do something, try to think of it as an investment in yourself.

Paying to compete helps keep you motivated now that you have put something on the line.

The Thrill of Bowling Competition

One of the more obvious benefits is that a bowling tournament is exciting.

The competitive nature of the event can be a very inspiring experience as many bowlers find themselves in a completely different mindset when competing in a tournament.

What’s more, that can carry over once the event is over.

Participating in a tournament can help you focus your bowling goals and gives you that extra drive to improve the areas that you think need work.

It can be hard to troubleshoot your own game in open bowling, but a tournament gives you a much better venue for doing so.

Bowling Tournaments: They’re Not Just for Pros

You may be apprehensive about joining a bowling tournament, and that’s natural, but you shouldn’t worry! Sure, some tournaments are incredibly high-level, but others are much more accessible.

If you hunt around it’s usually not too difficult to find a tournament where you’ll feel comfortable.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with some alleys in your area and talk to the staff about the tournaments offered and the level of player they would be most appropriate for.

There are even some tournaments with team play or special rules that are especially geared towards beginners.

Have you ever bowled in a tournament? And if not, do you plan to soon?
