When you’re learning how to bowl, there are plenty of different ways to improve. Practice, of course, is the most important ingredient, but we also like to read books, blogs, and magazines to help learn more about this game. Works with more visual content, such as diagrams, photos and videos, can be a great accompaniment to textual descriptions.
But in addition to all of these options, there’s still more that can be done. When I’m truly engrossed in a particular topic, like bowling, I want to learn more about it everywhere I can! And I spend a lot of my time driving, at the gym, doing work around the house, or taking walks. These times are perfect for podcasts, which are “a type of digital media consisting of an episodic series of audio, video, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device.” (Wikipedia)
I’ve recently started taking to listening to different podcasts, but I couldn’t find many high-quality ones. Bowling, it seems, is a sport that is a little slow adapting to some of the manifestations of the digital age. A lot of the websites out there are pretty old or rarely updated.
But the one podcast that did stand out to me is called Above 180, hosted by Tim Burg and Joey Cerar who are both lifelong bowlers and very knowledgeable about the sport. As the title suggests, the podcast is aimed at helping bowlers improve their average to a higher level. It’s not for complete beginners, but if you have some experience and are looking to take that next leap, it might be perfect for you.
The Above 180 podcast covers topics such as:
· The latest ball reviews
· New coaching techniques
· Your mental game
· Choosing the right ball for the right condition
· Ball physics
· Proper equipment layout
I’ve enjoyed the episodes I’ve listened to, preferring to subscribe through iTunes so I get the new ones automatically delivered to my iPod. If you’re interested, check out the podcast at Above180.com.
