It’s been a few weeks since my spring bowling league ended, and I’m now settled in in Madison, WI for the summer. Naturally, I want to find a good bowling league as soon as possible.
While there is certainly no shortage of possible locations, I’ve been thinking a lot about what is the best day and/or time for league bowling in general.
I’ve bowled on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays ranging from early evening to later at night, and I’m not sure if there’s a clear favorite. I think I can safely rule out Mondays, at least during the fall, because Monday Night Football on the alley TVs caused a good amount of distraction among everyone there.
A league on Friday or even Thursday nights will often lead to many more drinks being consumed. If the league is just for fun, this would be a positive, but for those looking for intense competition might be better off picking a different day. In general, the later in the evening the league starts, the more this will become a factor.
I always used to think Sunday would be a great time for league, but it seems that I’m always extra busy getting things ready for the coming week to really concentrate.
Finally, I’ve never seen an early-morning league except for those aimed at Seniors, and I think it’s safe to say that wouldn’t be very popular (or even possible) for most bowlers.
All in all, I guess there’s no simple answer to the best day and time for bowling league. Either way, I hope I pick one that works out well!
